VIDEO: Charlie Lankester And The Mojo Killers —
Brixton Road (Album Version)
It's a shame I don't have more space here, because Charlie Lankester's story deserves it. On the final day of mixing his solo album Song in a Minor Key, the pianist was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and given just a few months to live. That was almost exactly a year ago. This Sunday, he takes to the stage at O2 ABC2.
Over the course of his 20-year career, Lankester has supported BB King and AC/DC with Australian band The Last Chance Café, gone it alone as a travelling busker, and worked with a host of esteemed musicians on the UK blues circuit.
He serenades Glasgow with The Mojo Killers, a seven-piece band that bring rootsy rhythms to his infectious ivory tinklings.
If you're in need of a little inspiration this weekend, it's hard to imagine a better place to be.
